Abington Park Active Travel Scheme

Thank you to everyone who has contacted me with your thoughts on the Abington Active Travel Scheme. Â
As many of you will know, proposals for Phase 3 of the scheme are centred on the junction between Park Avenue South, King Edward Road and Abington Crescent. Â
I am aware that the closing of the eastern end of King Edward Road and making Abington Crescent one way traffic are of particular concern. This is especially regarding possible increased traffic through smaller streets, emergency service access to residential homes, and parking for Abington Park during match days. Â
I am also mindful of those who have contacted me in support of the scheme and who raise examples of accidents taking place at the junction and the lack of cycle provision in the area. I believe that our roads belong to everyone and that the beauty of Abington Park should be shared by pedestrians, drivers and cyclists and I am a supporter of active travel for its health and environmental benefits. Â
I had a meeting with the Leader of West Northamptonshire Council, Cllr Mark Arnull, on Friday 16 January where I conveyed the thoughts of residents who had contacted me. He told me they had received a large response to the consultation on the plans and assured me that they would be considered when reviewing the proposals ahead of submission to the planning committee.
The public consultation ended on Sunday 18 January, but council officers are still consulting with stakeholders including schools, and local groups. Â
I remain in contact with local councillors, community groups and the Friends of Abington Park as we wait to see the outcome of the consultation. Please be assured I am monitoring the situation and will be back in touch once matters have progressed. Â
